Presentation
Created in September 2009, DECLAM' is a young association under the French law of 1901. It is open to all, and is part of an ongoing Popular Education approach, for and with local initiatives and dynamics. DECLAM' invites all citizens to become players in their territory.
Our objectives are :
- Rehabilitate and enliven local heritage through the participation and awareness-raising of a diverse public.
- Initiate, develop and experiment with educational, social, cultural and popular initiatives.
- Encourage and participate in the emergence and development of local initiatives.
- Enable and share a permanent, critical and evolutionary reflection on Popular Education actions.
Our activities are organized around three main themes:
- Youth volunteer work camps: the aim is to raise young people's awareness of the collective restoration of rural heritage by developing their sense of initiative around an eco-citizen approach.
- Popular cultural events: in association with local initiatives and dynamics around projects such as meals, brass bands, hikes, heritage discovery, games...
- Training, support, advice and exchanges...
For the DECLAM' association, heritage restoration projects contribute to local development. They are part of a process of raising awareness and training young people and local residents in heritage, as part of a dynamic of citizenship education through participation in a collective action. So, in addition to the added value to the region that heritage rehabilitation brings, it also serves as a support for the creation of social links by enabling multiple exchanges.
The objectives of DECLAM' workcamps can be summed up as follows:
- Raise young people's awareness of collective restoration of rural heritage
- To awaken an active curiosity in young people and enable them to discover a rural area by taking part in its dynamics.
- Develop a sense of initiative, through participation in a common project based on an eco-citizen approach.
DECLAM' associates all its workcamp projects with local dynamics. For example, in addition to the workcamps, young people can volunteer at a street theater festival, or take part in the village fête. The discovery of local traditions and intercultural exchanges between residents and volunteers are cross-cutting pedagogical elements in all activities: from gardening to bread baking, from a walk in the woods to washing clothes in the river, from a meal with the locals to discovering outdoor sports...
The DECLAM' association wants to work with people who reflect the society in which they live. That's why our volunteer groups are built around a mixed and diverse approach: The aim is to encourage genuine exchanges between local young people, young people from all over France, young people from abroad, girls and boys of course, and young people from social and educational homes.
