Heritage as a link

REMPART sees heritage as a link between people, helping them to build a sustainable future together.

A humanist movement without borders, REMPART is rooted in the riches of the past, to be a source of emotion and fulfillment for all.

Our missions

Union REMPART's mission is to restore, enhance and pass on heritage, thanks to its network of member associations and international partners.

Making heritage everyone's business means making commitment, social inclusion, intercultural encounters and intergenerational sharing a reality.

Through collective, educational, training, mediation and integration actions, REMPART preserves built or natural heritage and traditional know-how.

As ayouth and popular educationmovement, the Union encourages the exercise of citizenship and the assumption of responsibility through voluntary action.

REMPART leads a network of associations and encourages the sharing of practices and know-how, which contributes to the development of players and regions. It participates in the elaboration of public policies by defending its vision of heritage as a common good, from its restoration to its reuse.

Our values

FREEDOM: Union REMPART advocates freedom of association and project membership, as well as independence. It is part of an organized civil society, a guarantor of democracy.

SHARING: Union REMPART affirms its desire to share and pass on its heritage and know-how, to act collectively, and to make the most of everyone's experience and skills through popular education.

PERMANENCE: Union REMPART is committed to a quality approach that respects the ecological transition and is in keeping with the times; it places its actions in the perspective of a sustainable future.

RESPECT: Union REMPART defends heritage, just as it defends humanity through equality, secularism, the rejection of all discrimination and the welcoming of all differences.

SOLIDARITY: Union REMPART, with its altruistic approach, carries out inclusive actions that contribute to social cohesion and encourage mutual aid and cooperation on a local level.

On heritage missions since 1966

a group of enthusiasts ...

The association des animateurs de chantiers de sauvegarde pour la Réhabilitation et Entretien des Monuments et du Patrimoine ARTistique was founded on July 11, 1966, under the aegis of the Touring Club de France. The idea was to enable volunteers to strengthen their means of action for heritage preservation.

Two years later, the association, now known as Union REMPART, set up a training program for volunteer leaders in conjunction with the French Ministry of Culture's Architecture Department. In the 1980s, the network set up regional unions bringing together its local associations, to promote its popular education initiatives both locally and nationally. And it continues to share its knowledge of heritage by becoming a publisher with the "Patrimoine Vivant" and "Cahiers Techniques" collections.

... to a vast international network

Since its creation, REMPART has welcomed international volunteers and, for more than 20 years, has been developing increasingly varied partnerships aimed at strengthening exchanges and asserting the international dimension of both the work site and the heritage. Union REMPART is involved with NGOs, universities and representatives of civil society who wish to tackle the problem of heritage degradation.

In many countries, heritage conservation is still in its infancy, and volunteer workcamps are seen as a way of making a visible impact on both heritage and society, by raising awareness of heritage issues. REMPART shares its experience with its partners and supports them in building a project adapted to their needs and in setting up their workcamps. REMPART maintains ongoing relations with Alliances Françaises, Instituts Français around the world and international NGOs such as INTO, CCIVS and Climate Heritage Network (CHN).

from local to regional to national

Each REMPART member association was created around a project to safeguard, enhance and promote a heritage site, within a dynamic of popular education and local development.

The Union never takes the place of its associations in the development and implementation of their restoration and animation projects, but ensures the coherence and quality of its members' activities, notably through a training policy for association leaders and animators.

REMPART is a member of the Cotravaux network, Cnajep, Cofac and G7 patrimoine.

recognized expertise and shared experience

Recognized as a major player in heritage education, REMPART participates in numerous consultation committees with government departments and local authorities, while maintaining its independence from public authorities. The association is accredited by the Ministry of Youth, Education and the Environment, the Ministry of Education and Culture, and by the Civic Service.
