Founded in 1969, Archeolo-J (short for Jeunesses archéologiques belges) is an active leisure association recognized by the Ministries of the Walloon Region, Brussels Capital Region and the French Community. Its aim is to raise public awareness, especially among young people, of the existence and preservation of our archaeological and architectural heritage. The educational approach is based on involving young people in the various aspects of scientific research. To this end, Archeolo-J organizes weekends and courses on archaeological digs, excursions and trips on a theme related to archaeology or history, and educational activities for schools (exhibitions, conferences). It also publishes scientific and educational documents and maintains a library for its members.

Archeolo-J organizes several workcamps at the same time during the summer: while all volunteers are accommodated together (the group can number up to 80 people!), they are spread out over different sites for the work. The REMPART workcamp is open to volunteers aged 17 and over, but younger volunteers (aged 15 and over) are also accommodated on the same site. The majority of volunteers are Belgian. Volunteers work around 35 hours a week, the rest of the time being devoted to lectures and technical workshops on archaeology (particularly excavation techniques) and sports activities. On Saturdays, volunteers go on excursions, and a fancy dress party is organized in the evening. Volunteers take it in turns to help the organizers serve the meals.
