Introduction to archaeology in the Condroz namurois (2 weeks 1)

Organised by "Archeolo-J"

From age 18

Learn about archaeology with a dynamic team in the heart of the Condroz region of Namur.

The heritage site

Discover the richness of archaeology with passionate professionals, in the exceptional setting of the Condroz namurois. These workcamps are in great demand! Don't hesitate to apply as soon as possible.

Between ridges and valleys, the Condroz offers a rural setting dotted with crops and pastures. Since 2010, archéolo-J has been conducting excavations here.

More information on the excavation site will be published here shortly.

Planned work

The main aim of this project is to gain a better understanding of human occupation in the Condroz Namurois. This will involve an introduction to archaeological excavation, as well as recording (plan and cross-sectional surveys, stratigraphic units, etc.). There will also be work to clear masonry structures (wall, stonework).

On-site work is scheduled from Monday to Friday, 3 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the afternoon.

Volunteers will be supervised by an archaeologist site manager and a team of 1 to 3 supervisors.

Group living and accommodation

Accommodation will be in tents and chalets set around a friendly farmhouse that includes the reception center, dining room, bar, kitchen, library and reading room. Shared sanitary facilities include toilets and showers, with hot water.

The association recommends that you bring your own air mattress or camp bed (size 1 person). Other beds such as garden recliners are not permitted.

Breakfast and two hot meals are served daily by a qualified kitchen team, with the help of participants, at the archeolo-J center. Please let us know if you require a special diet.

A refreshment bar is available for the purchase of drinks other than water (ticket system).
Pocket money can be safely deposited at the reception desk and withdrawn during the week as required. The office will be open during the week for the purchase of refreshment tickets, archaeological magazines, T-shirts and sweatshirts.

Leisure and other activities

There will be a break after lunch. In the evenings, various activities (conferences, excursions, festive evenings, etc.) are planned according to the organization of the program and the entertainment teams. Saturday: excursion and theme evening.

Practical info

No specific skills are required to take part.

In the days following your pre-registration, the International Relations Department will contact you by e-mail to arrange a telephone conversation.

This will enable us to get to know you better and give you more details about the workcamp (organization, arrival arrangements, etc.).

You can ask us any questions you may have, and let us know what you need to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

You will then receive a roadmap summarizing all useful information about the site.
