Presentation

The first horse-drawn quarry winches appeared in 1870. The association's aim is to restore this unique installation, one of the last vestiges of the 19th century mineral industry.

The association promotes, preserves and develops historical research, protection and enhancement of the quarries' industrial heritage. It has undertaken the restoration of the Auboin quarry winch, operated by a horse, and hosts volunteer work camps. It offers tours of this unique installation, one of the last vestiges of the 19th-century mineral industry, as well as exhibitions, conferences and publications. PICAR has initiated the Lutécia project to create a Heritage Interpretation and Animation Center dedicated to the quarries.
