Created in 1990, the Marcoussis Historical Association has three objectives:
- the promotion of local history through exhibitions and publications,
- the conservation of agricultural tools and machinery and the creation of an eco-museum,
- restoration and enhancement of architectural and archaeological heritage (Montagu castle, ceramics, etc.).
the château has just undergone a major restoration phase, thanks to the French government, the Region and the Département, as well as the Fondation du Patrimoine and the Française des Jeux (Mission Bern).
Patrons include Crédit Agricole and the Total Energie Foundation.
A subscription has been launched to complete the financing: https://www.fondation-patrimoine.org/les-projets/vestiges-du-chateau-de-montagu-a-marcoussis-dans-lessonne
Every year, a youth volunteer workcamp is organized at Château de Montagu. The aim is to maintain and conserve the castle ruins. Monthly workcamps are organized to continue the work already underway.
In the course of this work, you'll be able to carry out a variety of tasks, including pottery restoration, masonry work, cleaning (weeding, weed removal, stripping of ramparts, etc.) and an introduction to stone-cutting. No previous skills are required.
Château de Montagu is located less than 30 km south of Paris. Although largely destroyed, it offers a unique insight into medieval castles. Tours are available for school groups.
The association also assists students or trainees who choose a monument or major figure from Marcoussis as the theme for their dissertation.
