Domeyrat Reinvented!

Organizers / Managers

Presentation

For over 800 years, Domeyrat castle has proudly dominated the village from the top of its rocky peak! Its imposing silhouette, visible from afar, has impressed and fascinated for countless generations.

A jewel in the crown of Haut-Allier's cultural heritage, the château has been listed as a historic monument since 1983. Owned by the Conseil Général de Haute-Loire, it is managed and run by the Domeyrat Réinventé! association, whose mission is to safeguard this exceptional heritage. Thanks to the efforts of the association's volunteers and professionals, as well as companies and associated organizations, the château is gradually coming back to life, and is now one of Haute-Loire's cultural highlights!

PROJECT

The association is determined to restore this formidable piece of architecture to the stature it deserves: that of a fortified castle emblematic of the Lower Auvergne region.

We intend to embark on a long and meticulous campaign of restoration and partial reconstruction of the Château de Domeyrat, under the guidance and support of professionals in the fields of archaeology, architecture and restoration of historic monuments. Our aim is to open up educational and participative workcamps to put into practice the three core values of our association: transmission, solidarity and sharing. We'll be working with students, integration projects and the general public.

Step back in time at Domeyrat

Come and discover or re-discover the Château de Domeyrat during a guided tour!

You'll be able to immerse yourself in its rich, multi-century history! Over the centuries, the successive families who have ruled the seigneury of Domeyrat have turned the fortress into a remarkable, luxurious residence.

But beware of Lord Anguerrand de Pierrevals, who still occupies and defends the castle! If you're up to it, he'll show you what life was like in the 13th century, right in the heart of the Middle Ages!

Access: the château parking lot is by the road on the western edge of the village. A path leads from the parking lot to the château. Allow 5 minutes' walk from the parking lot to the château.
