The commune of Beynes is located in the Yvelines, to the north-east of the arrondissement of Rambouillet and the canton of Montfort-l'Amaury. Its history dates back to prehistoric times, as attested by a number of archaeological finds. The village boasts a 12th- and 13th-century château-fort and a church with listed furnishings, including a magnificent 14th-century statue of the Virgin and Child.
The Beynes Histoire et Patrimoine association, founded in October 2009, aims to :
- To promote the history of Beynes and its heritage.
- Restore, maintain and promote the Château de Beynes.
Its aims are to:
- draw up an inventory of local heritage
- create a documentary database on the history of the town of Beynes
- oversee the conservation and restoration of the town's historical, artistic, archaeological and environmental heritage
- raise awareness and understanding of heritage through various events and publications
- Èparticipate in the organization of volunteer youth workcamps to safeguard heritage.
