Presentation

The association de Sauvegarde de l'ancienne abbaye de Lieu-Restauré has been active since 1964.

The original aim was to prevent the collapse of the 15th/16th century church.

The classification of the church as a historic monument in 1965, and the discovery of the ruins of the former abbey, led to :
- archaeological excavations to study the ancient edifice
- development and enhancement of the site to welcome visitors
- Restoration of the church and the ruins of the conventual buildings, to ensure the protection and enhancement of this edifice.
- Cultural activities (guided tours, exhibitions, concerts, theater, etc.) to raise awareness of the site.) to raise awareness of the abbey and give this ancient building a function, so as to interest the various authorities (DRAC, Conseil Général, Conseil Régional, etc.) in the rehabilitation of this site.

The restoration site is open every weekend.

The association organizes guided tours of the site.

During week-end workcamps, volunteers take part in the following tasks:

- Consolidation, restoration and protection of the church's eastern gable: stone-cutting, masonry and repointing, scaffolding set-up

- Internal restoration of the church's south aisle: stone-cutting (voussoirs, column bases, etc.) requiring very good craftsmanship, masonry, pointing, miscellaneous work

- Restoration of the ruins of the 12th-century refectory: surveys, layout, stone-cutting and masonry work.

- Site maintenance: lawn mowing, cleaning and enhancement of the abbey.

- Guided tours of the site and archaeological repository

- Cultural activities: organization, preparation and management of exhibitions...
