Take part in the restoration of the Château de Calmont d'Olt at the heart of a European project.
|
The activities will take place in Espalion, a village in the Aveyron department of Occitanie (southern France). They will be organized by the Association de Sauvegarde du Château de Calmont d'Olt. The Château de Calmont d'Olt is a landmark in the medieval province of Rouergue. Built on a basalt peak 600 meters above sea level, it overlooks the town of Espalion, the Lot valley and the Aubrac mountains. Its architecture reflects 800 years of adapting defensive techniques to the evolution of artillery.
This ERASMUS+ exchange will give you the opportunity to take part in a collective and useful action in favor of heritage with volunteers from Germany and France. Together, you'll contribute to the preservation of a centuries-old heritage, as well as discovering the fascinating history of Occitanie through magnificent sites from all historical periods. During your stay, you'll be welcomed by the Association de Sauvegarde du Château de Calmont d'Olt.

For over 30 years, the association has been working on the restoration and tourist enhancement of the castle, with stonemasonry and masonry workcamps, archaeological digs, discovery of the Middle Ages and events. This summer, you'll be working in two workshops: stonemasonry and carpentry.

Group living and accommodation
|
The accommodation belongs to the association. It comprises a 16-bed mixed dormitory (+ one or two bedrooms depending on the number of participants), sanitary facilities, a lounge area and a common room for preparing and sharing meals.
Please note that the WiFi signal is not very good in the accommodation, but you'll be able to access it if you need to check your emails. It's simple, but enough to have a good time!
Meals are taken in the accommodation. Everyone will help with chores, and you're welcome to organize a national or local meal! Some evenings will be devoted to European heritage, with games and debates, and excursions will be organized to heritage and/or nature sites (depending on the weather).
|
Leisure and other activities
|
Medieval-style activities will also be organized, as well as guided tours of Romanesque art and the surrounding medieval villages. You'll also learn about European heritage, its richness and diversity, its values and its challenges.
