From 18 to 30 years old

Take part in promoting the rural heritage of the Sierra Norte region north of Madrid.

The heritage site

The site is located in the heart of the Sierra Norte de Madrid, one of the most natural and authentic areas of the Community of Madrid. Situated at an altitude of around 1,000 metres, the site is surrounded by several villages, including Sieteiglesias, Lozoyuela and Las Navas de Buitrago.

Planned work
During the two-week project, participants will carry out a series of actions aimed at reconnecting nature with local culture, while improving the accessibility and practicability of rural paths for local residents and visitors.
 
There will therefore be learning and collaboration on the following practical tasks:
  • Restore an existing dry-stone wall on the path leading to the village of Cinco Villas.
  • Erect a new wall near this path.
  • Enhance a fountain, pond and washhouse.
  • Improve accessibility in and around the fountain area.
  • Carry out fieldwork and various recreational activities to enhance local biodiversity.
  • Participate in environmental awareness campaigns.
  • Create content for social networks to promote the knowledge and importance of the rural environment.

Group living and accommodation

Generally, working hours on the site take place in the morning, between 9am and 1:30pm, with free time and leisure activities in the afternoon:

  • 08:00: Wake-up
  • 08:30: Breakfast
  • 09:00: Worksite
  • 11:00: Half-hour snack break
  • 11:30 am - 1:30 pm: Worksite
  • 14h00 : Lunch
  • 15h00 : Break
  • 17h00 : Leisure and free time activities
  • 20h30 : Dinner
  • 21h30 : Night activities
  • 11:45pm: Good night

Accommodation is in the Sieteiglesias parish inn. A sleeping bag is required.

Leisure and other activities

Various leisure activities are planned during free time and cultural excursions are scheduled:

  • Welcome evening
  • Cultural excursions to Segovia and Buitrago de Lozoya
  • Guided tour of the Sieteiglesias necropolis
  • Evening entertainment
  • Workshops on handmade soap, recycling, rural photography, resin and birdhouses.
  • Visit to the ethnographic museum
  • Swimming pool and sports

Practical info

No specific skills are required to take part.


In the days following your pre-registration, the International Relations Department will contact you by e-mail to arrange a telephone conversation.

This will enable us to get to know you better and give you more details about the workcamp (organization, arrival arrangements, etc.).

You'll be able to ask us any questions you may have, and let us know what you need to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

You will then receive a roadmap summarizing all useful information about the site.

The price of this site includes liability and accident insurance, provided by the local partner.
