Stone cutting to enhance the medieval site of Peyrusse le Roc
Since 1972, the Le Bastidou association has been organizing volunteer workcamps on the medieval site of Peyrusse le Roc. The site bears witness to an important royal bailiwick in the Middle Ages. Today, its remains make up a magnificent landscape, with monuments, all in ruins, and an impressive rock, crowned by two towers.
The stones you'll be cutting will be used to consolidate a building bordering an access path to the medieval site. You'll make blocks, according to the rules of the trade, and arrange them to reframe a doorway.
The activity will be supervised by a professional, who will teach you all you need to know.
We'll introduce you to the art of tracery, so that you can fit your stones together properly. During the weekend, you'll discover monuments whose facades, doors and windows are of medieval origin. You'll see how the techniques taught during the course were already being used by medieval builders.
Every day, working in pairs, you'll take it in turns to share out the tasks required for community life. You'll develop your talents as cooks by preparing meals, and you'll make the premises pleasant for everyone by maintaining the living environment.
During your stay, the Le Bastidou association will accommodate you in a small house called l'Ecole Basse, just 50 meters from the village square. It has two dormitories, two showers (one outside), a toilet and a kitchen. Meals are served on a terrace. When the weather's fine, the view is magnificent.
If you arrive by train, get off at Capdenac station, 30 minutes from Peyrusse le Roc, at the crossroads of the Brive-Rodez and Toulouse-Aurillac lines. We'll come and pick you up. Just let us know in advance of your arrival (see the general information sheet for directions).
This internship can be the subject of an agreement: for your studies, in university, architecture school, engineering school, if you are training in a CFPA, building trades, to validate a test in the workplace (E.M.P), if you have a project monitored by France - Travail.
