Restoration of a historic shipyard - Tramasset

Organised by "Les Chantiers Tramasset"

In an atypical association, take part in the renovation of a 19th-century shipyard that built traditional wooden boats.

Traditional lime masonry, limestone cutting and discovery of local heritage are on the program.

The former Tramasset shipyards (1837) are a unique site. Listed as a Monument Historique, they are the oldest shipyards in France still in operation. Comprising two main buildings, two slipways and an 1891 drying oven, the site is part of the river port of Le Tourne-Langoiran, Entre-Deux-Mers.

You'll take part in stone-cutting and traditional lime masonry. Scraping, carving, disjointing, rejoining and lime coating are just some of the skills you'll master by the end of this project. You'll be working with Gironde stone, a beautiful blond limestone typical of the Bordeaux region. The group will work on the walls of the mediation room (former marine carpentry workshop), as well as on other elements to be restored, such as the wood-burning oven.

Work days start at 9:30 a.m. and end at 5:30 p.m. Technical workshops are held every day of the week, and weekends are devoted to exploring the area, either independently or accompanied by an employee or member of the association. The supervisors are qualified professionals employed by the association. Daily life and various tasks are organized and carried out collectively with the participants.

A list of outings and leisure activities is proposed to the group: hikes, visits to Bordeaux, meetings with artists' and craftsmen's collectives, visits to vineyards, cultural events, museums... We decide on the program collectively. Adult groups can, of course, go out on their own, or be accompanied by a member of the association.
