Work at Fort Cézon

Organised by "Cézon Association"

from age 18

Worksite at Fort Cézon

Discovering a new territory

Ile Cézon is a 3-hectare fortified island at the entrance to Aber Wrac'h, 30 km from Brest. It's a place of great beauty in a classified natural site, with an architectural heritage listed as a Monument Historique since 2015.
Built by Vauban to protect Brest from English attack, transformed under Napoleon III and then taken over by the German army during the Second World War, Fort Cézon is steeped in history.
The association's project is to make the island and fort a place for artistic creation, cultural encounters and walks, experimentation and knowledge-sharing.

Learning new skills

The project involves consolidating the barracks, the dry ditch, the cross-wall and the ramparts, using traditional lime masonry, repointing, earthworks and brush clearing.

As a bonus, you can also try your hand at carpentry and stone-cutting.

Living with the environment

The island is ideal for swimming and fishing. The place is quiet but the comfort rustic: drinking water but no running water, no electricity but dry toilets, solar showers, panels for recharging your cell phone and the pleasure of living an unforgettable experience. Toiletries must be environmentally friendly, and you'll be given a bottle of biodegradable soap for your shower. Overnight stays are in tents or bunker dormitories, immersion guaranteed!

Respecting the ecology of the site is important to us and contributes fully to the richness of the experience.

Growing together through collective action

The intermittent insularity of Cézon and the mix of cultures and generations give this site an originality that leaves an indelible memory for those who have wielded the trowel, the chisel, the wheelbarrow or the chisel. The conviviality generated by the work and the poetry of the place is all the stronger for it.

Sharing the tasks inherent in collective life is obviously essential to the smooth running of the site.

Some of the site leaders speak English and Italian as well as French.
