Châteauneuf-sur-Epte : weekends

Members of the Héritage Historique association run weekend work camps and welcome volunteers keen to help preserve and restore their heritage at Châteauneuf-sur-Epte, a remarkable example of 11th and 12th century military architecture in Normandy.

Site

Saved from perdition in 2015 by the Héritage Historique association, the château is gradually being reborn thanks to the goodwill and commitment of everyone involved. The aim is to fully restore this long-neglected fortress and establish a medieval cultural center open to all.
With the revegetation of the fortress almost complete, the weekend work is part of the consolidation and preparation phase for the major restoration work.

Planned work

Depending on the weather and the availability of technical supervisors, several activities will be on offer over the weekends: masonry, traditional limewash, joinery, carpentry, roofing, cleaning and revegetation of the château, other miscellaneous work.
The work takes place at weekends, and the schedule may vary according to the weather and the availability of the supervisors.

Organization

No participation fee payable to the association for weekend workcamps: volunteers manage their own food and equipment. Accommodation is not charged.
For the sake of simplicity and to save time, volunteers generally bring their own meals, although communal pots and barbecues are sometimes organized.
Please bring safety shoes and protective gloves (preferably leather gardening gloves).
Please note! You must arrive at the château by your own means.
Carpooling is recommended: the château is right in the middle of the Paris-Rouen axis, with a 5-minute detour.
Please note that if you wish to stay overnight on Saturday, you'll be accommodated in a house undergoing renovation, which is not yet heated or properly insulated. You'll need to bring your own sleeping bag and mattress.
