Laying pavement is a whole profession, and we'd like you to learn all about it.
Since 1972, the Le Bastidou association has been enhancing the medieval site of Peyrusse-le-Roc through volunteer workcamps. From August 4 to 15, it's up to you to pave the way!

In the 13th century, Pétrucia (now Peyrusse le Roc) was the largest bailliage in Rouergue, covering 106 parishes and with a population of around 3,500. A Bailli ruled this territory, representing the King and exercising judicial and military powers. The town declined, and lost its title as chief town of the Bailliage in 1719. Today, its remains form a magnificent landscape, with historic monuments, all in ruins, dominated by an impressive rock, crowned by two towers.

During the course, you'll learn how to wedge granite stones. The work will be supervised by a professional, who will pass on his skills.
To restore the damaged parts of the path, where the cobblestones have gradually disappeared, you're going to recreate a surface with donkey steps. In the middle, the gutter facilitates the movement and channelling of water. It slopes slightly inwards to direct water to the center of the path.

Every day, working in pairs, you'll take it in turns to share out the tasks required for community life. You'll develop your talents as cooks by preparing meals, and you'll make the premises pleasant for everyone by maintaining the living environment.
On weekends, and sometimes during the week, we offer you the chance to discover villages, some of which are of medieval origin. In this way, you'll see how the techniques taught during the course were already being practiced by medieval builders.
During your stay, the Le Bastidou association will accommodate you in a small house called l'Ecole Basse, just 50 meters from the village square. It has two dormitories, two showers (one outside), a toilet and a kitchen. Meals are served on a terrace. When the weather's fine, the view is magnificent.

If you're coming by train, get off at Capdenac station. It's 30 minutes from Peyrusse le Roc (Brive-Rodez or Toulouse-Aurillac lines). We'll come and pick you up. Please let us know in advance of your arrival. (See the general information sheet for directions).
This internship can be the subject of an agreement: with universities, architecture schools, engineering schools, a CFPA preparing students for the building trades, and France-Travail to validate a trial in a professional environment (E.M.P.).
