The site is located in Sellia Marina, on the Ionian coast. The Gruppo Archeologico Ionico and the Soprintendenza Archeologica, Belle Arti e Paesaggio of Calabria are renewing recovery and enhancement activities at Sellia Marina (CZ). During previous projects in 2006, 2009, 2018 and 2019, 2022 and 2023, more than 35 tombs were uncovered, revealing highly interesting archaeological finds now preserved in the Sopraintendenza's repositories. Again this summer, all the remains recovered will be cleaned and transported to the Sopraintendenza site. We will also be cleaning an ancient Roman building near the necropolis.
Calabria is a region in southern Italy. It is a peninsula bordered by Basilicata to the north, the Ionian Sea to the east, the Strait of Messina to the south-west, which separates it from Sicily, and the Tyrrhenian Sea to the west. It has a population of almost 2 million and a total surface area of 15,222 km2. Catanzaro is the region's capital.

Group living and accommodation

Accommodation will be in small houses (bungalows) located in an exclusive area for us, not far from the work camp. Rooms can accommodate 3 to 4 people and are single-sex.
Meals will be prepared daily by a chef.

Leisure and other activities
|
Site visits, hiking, swimming, sports and cultural activities: leisure activities are often organized on the group's own initiative. The association will suggest activities according to its possibilities and the opportunities offered by the region. In all cases, rest, ice cream, Italian food and beaches are on the agenda!
Some activities may be chargeable to volunteers.
|
No specific skills are required to take part.
In the days following your pre-registration, the International Relations Department will contact you by e-mail to arrange a telephone conversation.
This will enable us to get to know you better and give you more details about the workcamp (organization, arrival arrangements, etc.).
You can ask us any questions you may have, and let us know what you need to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
You will then receive a roadmap summarizing all useful information about the site.
Meet at Lamezia Terme international airport, Lamezia Terme railway station or Catanzaro Lido railway station, depending on your arrival arrangements. The association will be present to welcome you at one of these three points.
Volunteers must confirm their arrival and departure times with REMPART and the host association at least 15 days before the start of the workcamp.
