Archaeology at Ischia de Castro (1 week 1)

Organised by "Gruppo Archeologico Romano"

From age 18

Immerse yourself in Italian history by discovering archaeology at Ischia de Castro.

The heritage site

Founded by the Etruscans, but already inhabited in prehistoric times, Ischia di Castro is a village where heritage and history are visible everywhere. Continued excavations at Villa Selvicciola, a Roman villa from the Republican and Imperial periods, and at the cistern. Archaeological excavations of the residential area, cistern, tombs and site development.

Excavations (begun in 1982) are continuing in the Roman villa of Selvicciola, with Republican and Imperial phases, and in the Late Antique necropolis, which has already been investigated by the Roman Archaeological Group in the past. Help us protect and enhance sites of unique and ancient charm, plan itineraries with us and walk alongside us on the paths where archaeology meets life. Research is organized in collaboration with the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the Metropolitan Region of Rome, the Province of Viterbo and Southern Etruria.

Planned work

Participants will excavate archaeological sites under the supervision of expert archaeologists. Every day, they'll work on excavated materials and attend courses to deepen their technical knowledge.

Please note that safety shoes and gloves are mandatory on these sites.
