Presentation
Les Appels d'Orphée was founded in 1977. The work of Les Appels d'Orphée, which was awarded the national prize of the Caisse Nationale des Monuments Historiques in 1995, aims to protect 19th-century funerary heritage and make it better known to the public and professionals alike.
Supervised by a professional restorer, volunteers learn about stone restoration and the ethics of monument conservation and restoration.
Every year (since 1987), Les Appels d'Orphée has organized restoration courses for funerary monuments in Paris cemeteries.
Supervised by a Monuments Historiques restorer, these courses are open to everyone aged 18 and over. Trainees are introduced to restoration ethics and techniques (stone cutting, monument cleaning and maintenance, gilding, polychrome restitution, etc.). The courses also include a guided tour of a Parisian cemetery, to discover its history and some of its monuments.
