Founded in 1995, the ACRE association has set itself the goal of restoring, promoting and animating the Guinette Tower in Etampes, the only vestige of the royal castle built around 1130/1150. Its four-lobed shape makes it unique in France. To this end, ACRE organizes guided tours, exhibitions, medieval events and conferences? On this site overlooking the whole of Etampes, ACRE is committed to restoring the magnificence of this royal site. During the Journées du Patrimoine, ACRE organizes medieval events and guided tours of a vaulted room below the Tower.
To make the site accessible to all, and ensure its protection and upkeep, ACRE has organized restoration work and technical training courses since 1995. Archaeological surveys have uncovered a number of artefacts and the foundations of the Saint Laurent chapel. The aim is to restore the four lobes and cover the building to protect it from the elements and birds. To make it accessible, we are also considering restoring certain elements of the keep, such as the well and the staircase in the masonry.
