Presentation

The commune of Indre is made up of three ancient rocky islets, located 8 km downstream of Nantes in the Loire estuary. Since 1996, the Indre Histoire d'îles association has been committed to safeguarding a site that is unique in Europe: an 18th-century tidal mill built under the reign of Louis XVI to bore cannons for the Manufacture Royale d'Indret (1777). Fifty years later, the forge was filled in and converted into a chapel, then a parish church. The Indre Histoire d'îles association's aim is to restore and develop this site, which was once the region's leading industrial establishment.

Indre Histoire d'îles organizes educational workshops with schools to help them discover the area, based on themes and content developed in partnership with teachers.
