Traditional masonry and stone-cutting at Morimond Abbey
|
Come and take part in a volunteer masonry and stonemasonry project to save the ancient abbey of Morimond, in an idyllic setting between meadows, lakes and forests!
|
Morimond Abbey
Founded in 1115, Morimond Abbey is the fourth daughter abbey of Cîteaux. Throughout its history, it has been very prolific, with a network of some 200 daughter abbeys throughout Europe! This imposing abbey site was severely damaged in the 19th century. However, the Sainte-Ursule chapel, the porter's house and part of the former library still bear witness to the site's important history.

The work
During this project, we'll be consolidating the ruins of the abbey's south doorway, demolished in the 20th century. During the worksite, a professional stonemason will introduce you to stonemasonry and traditional masonry (restoring a retaining wall, reinforcing masonry, etc.).
|
We'll work about 6 hours a day, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a long lunch break. There will be two rest days during the stay.
The workcamp is open to everyone aged 17 and over, with no previous experience required! Students can sign an internship agreement.
|
Accommodation and group living
You'll be accommodated in the association's house, which is right next to the workcamp site. You'll sleep in shared dormitories (4 to 5 people, single-sex except on request). Sanitary facilities and kitchen are permanent. Meals are prepared and eaten together, giving you the opportunity to share convivial moments and show off your best recipes!
|
Free time and leisure
After work, you can go for a swim in the nearby lake, play games, or take advantage of your free time to relax! Throughout your stay, you'll be invited to take part in a number of outings to discover the local area, including a visit to the medieval town of Langres, hikes around the lake and the Bastille Day festivities... You'll also be invited to put forward your own ideas and wishes.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Abbey!
